Hivenza

Guide

Moving from Intercom to Hivenza, step by step

What each part of Intercom becomes, how your people, conversations and articles come over, how to swap the chat on your site, and an honest list of what does not come over.

Get started

What becomes what

Intercom’s words on the left of each line, and where it lives in Hivenza.

  • Inbox

    Every chat, comment, email and direct message is a numbered ticket with states, priorities, teams and macros. Your conversations come over with every message, private note and attachment, by the same teammate, at their original times.

  • Fin and the AI agent

    The AI agent (Pro) answers from your own knowledge (your words, files, websites and help centre), acts in your systems through procedures you write, checks who the customer is first and hands over to the people you choose. One AI credit per answer that reaches the customer. Fin’s procedures can’t be read from Intercom: rebuild each from the closest Workflows template.

  • Messenger

    The website chat: your colour and greeting, one line of code, who is on your site now, customers signed in on your site and verified by your server, and proactive messages on the pages you pick (Pro).

  • Articles and Help Center

    The help centre: collections become topics and articles come over in English and French, public or internal, searched from the chat and read by the AI agent. At your own address, like help.yourbrand.com, on Pro.

  • Outbound and Series

    Workflows and campaigns (Pro): a visual builder started by events from your site or app, with branches, waits and goals, across email, website chat, push and WhatsApp. Announcements and tours on your site.

  • Tickets

    Ticket types and their fields become tags and ticket fields; states map to open, pending and solved.

  • Macros, teams and teammates

    Macros become saved replies and teams come over. Your teammates are listed for you to invite: nobody is emailed until you pick them.

  • Custom Objects

    Not yet. Contacts and companies carry their custom details; records of your own kinds are on the plan, not built.

  • Reports

    Report history stays in Intercom: export it there first. Hivenza’s analytics and support analytics count from the day you switch.

The move, in six steps

  1. 1

    Start free

    Make a workspace and a brand. The free plan needs no card.

  2. 2

    Read your Intercom

    Settings, then Move to Hivenza: paste an access token (kept sealed, never shown again) and see a dry run of what would come over. Nothing is written until you choose.

  3. 3

    Bring it over

    Pick contacts, conversations, tickets, articles and macros. It can pause and carry on, and a second run makes no copies. Until switch day, new conversations keep coming every 15 minutes.

  4. 4

    Swap the chat

    Add the Hivenza line to your site, and sign people in to it with the same user ids: each customer’s Intercom history is then there when they write.

  5. 5

    Rebuild and test

    Recreate your workflows and Fin procedures from the Workflows templates, write the AI agent’s knowledge, and test the agent before you switch it on.

  6. 6

    Switch day

    Remove Intercom’s Messenger, switch the cut-over off and invite your teammates.

Swapping the chat on your site

Hivenza’s chat is one line of code. Customers who are signed in are recognised by the same user id you used for Intercom, signed by your server with your chat secret (Website chat, then Install).

HTML
<script>
  // When the customer is signed in on your site ("hash" comes from your server):
  window.hivenzaSettings = { user: {
    userId: "42",
    hash: "<HMAC-SHA256 of 42 with your chat secret, in hex>",
    name: "Emily",
    email: "emily@example.com",
  } };
</script>
<script src="https://hivenza.com/widget.js" data-key="YOUR_CHAT_KEY" async></script>
<script>
  // If who is signed in changes later (the chat may not have loaded yet):
  window.Hivenza && Hivenza.identify(window.hivenzaSettings.user);
</script>
Node.js
import { createHmac } from "node:crypto";

// On your server, never in the browser. The same id you gave Intercom.
const hash = createHmac("sha256", process.env.HIVENZA_CHAT_SECRET!)
  .update(String(user.id))
  .digest("hex");

The hash is made on your server and is never sent from the browser. Imported user ids are kept, so a person you imported is joined to their history the first time your site signs them in.

What to expect

Comes over

  • Contacts, with their custom details, tags and user ids
  • Companies, with the contacts in them
  • Every conversation and ticket, with messages, private notes and attachments
  • Teams, ticket types and fields, macros
  • Help-centre collections and articles, in English and French

Does not come over

  • Workflows and Fin procedures: Intercom’s API doesn’t list them, so each is rebuilt from a template
  • Report history
  • Custom Objects: not built yet
  • Conversations keep their 500 most recent parts: Intercom gives no more through its API
  • Phone lines: Hivenza’s calls are WhatsApp calls
  • Articles in languages other than English and French

We would rather you know now than find out on switch day.

Questions

Will my customers lose their chat history?

No. Conversations are imported with their messages, and once your site signs people in with the same user ids, each person’s history is there when they write.

Does Hivenza email my contacts?

No. Contacts come without consent for campaigns, and no rule, workflow or notification runs on what comes over. Teammates are only listed: nobody is invited until you pick them.

Can I keep Intercom running during the move?

Yes. The import only reads from Intercom. Turn on the cut-over and new conversations keep coming every 15 minutes until you switch the chat on your site.

What does the access token let you do?

Read your data. It is sealed with your workspace’s key, never shown again, and you can have Hivenza forget it from the same page at any time.

What if I want to leave anything behind?

Choose which parts come over in the dry run; each can be left out.
